Carolina elephantsfoot (Elephantopus carolinianus)
Carolina elephantsfoot is a rare, unique perennial with a distinctive growth habit and interestingly textured leaf. Their large, oblong leaves give the plant its common name, and small, pale lavender flowers bloom on wiry stems in late summer. Carolina elephantsfoot spreads and is best used in a naturalistic setting, though seedlings can be easily pulled out.
