DESCRIPTION:Discover Pennsylvania’s special plant species\n\n\nPA’s Rare\, Threatened and Endangered Plants and the Unique Habitats They Live In\n \nThursday\, July 21\, 7:00 – 8:30 pm\n \nPresented by Cheyenne Moore\, Plant Conservation Network Coordinator\, Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources\n \n \nPennsylvania is home to over 3\,000 plant species\, and among them are hundreds of rare\, threatened\, and endangered species. Explore how we determine what species fit into each of those categories. Many of Pennsylvania’s rare\, threatened\, and endangered species are associated with specialized habitats like waterways\, rocky slopes\, or wetlands that aren’t that common in the state. Join Cheyenne Moore to discover some of the state’s unique habitat types and the rare plants that live in them.\n \nFree of charge; registration is required.  \nThis lecture is a part of our monthly Third Thursday Lecture Series. DESCRIPTION:Join us on Wednesday\, July 27 at 12:00 p.m. for a virtual author visit with Dr. Kimberly Nicholas followed by Q&A! \n\n\n\nJoin Tredyffrin Public Library and Jenkins Arboretum & Gardens for the 2nd annual Arbo-READ-um Community Read Event. The Arbo-READ-um event is a program series born from a collaboration between the library and Jenkins Arboretum & Gardens. During the program\, the library and the arboretum work together to provide opportunities to promote literacy\, library and arboretum usage\, and community conversations by encouraging Tredyffrin Township to come together by reading and discussing a single book – Under the Sky We Make by Dr. Kimberly Nicholas. \n\n\n\nProf. Kimberly Nicholas is a sustainability scientist at Lund University in Sweden. She has published over 55 articles on climate and sustainability in leading peer-reviewed journals; writes for publications such as Elle\, The Guardian\, Scientific American\, and New Scientist; and is the author of Under the Sky We Make: How to be Human in a Warming World\, and the monthly climate newsletter We Can Fix It. She gives lectures and moderates at about 75 international meetings and organizations each year across public policy\, civil society\, arts and culture\, the wine industry\, foundations\, and academia. Her work has been featured by outlets including the BBC\, The New York Times\, The Washington Post\, The Atlantic\, National Public Radio\, Public Radio International\, Vox\, and USA Today. Born and raised on her family’s vineyard in Sonoma\, California\, she studied the effect of climate change on the California wine industry for her PhD in the Interdisciplinary Program in Environment and Resources at Stanford University.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a two-day photography class focused on our Pond!\n\n\nPond Photography Workshop\n \nA two-day class: Friday\, July 29\, 6:00 – 8:30 pm and Saturday\, July 30\, 8:00 am – 1:00 pm\n \nPresented by Laura Ducceschi\, Fine Art Photographer\n \n \nThe Pond at Jenkins is a showstopper in the summer! From wildlife to bold flowers and leaf textures\, the Pond provides the perfect opportunity to learn and practice skills for creating both landscape and close-up images. Award-winning photographer Laura Ducceschi will illustrate some of the challenges and solutions when photographing water\, including lighting\, angles\, composition and layering. Friday evening begins with indoor instruction\, preparing for shooting down at the Pond with exclusive access on Saturday morning. The class will wrap up with a chance to share images from the morning.\n \n \nParticipants need to bring their own camera with which they have some familiarity. Cameras with interchangeable lenses will have the features needed to take full advantage of the class. Bring a fully charged battery and a camera card with space to shoot freely. Tripods are recommended. Some activities are not applicable to point-and-shoot cameras.\n \n \nMembers: $70; Non-Members: $80
