SUMMARY:A Story of a Storm: Flooding\, Rain Gardens and Wildlife Habitat
DESCRIPTION:The Lower Merion Conservancy is excited to partner with Jenkins Arboretum & Gardens to host a webinar featuring Jamie Anderson\, our Watershed Specialist. Jamie will describe how the design of suburban neighborhoods exacerbates flooding and pollutes streams – which ultimately flow to drinking water sources. While many aspects of our built landscapes need to be changed to protect our waterways\, there are meaningful actions we can take at home. The bulk of the webinar will focus on residential-scale green stormwater projects (rain gardens\, depaving\, lawn replacement) that benefit streams. \n\n\n\nJamie’s vast experience implementing residential and municipal green stormwater projects makes her uniquely qualified to talk about stream conservation. There will be plenty of time for Q&A at the end. If you have any interest in streams\, rain gardens\, or stormwater in general\, come join us!

SUMMARY:Native Orchid Conservation Efforts at Longwood Gardens
DESCRIPTION:Learn about the successful outcomes and future aspirations of the Longwood native orchid conservation program.\n\n\nNative Orchid Conservation Efforts at Longwood Gardens\n \nThursday\, April 20\, 7 – 8:30 PM\n \nPeter Zale\, Associate Director of Conservation\, Plant Breeding\, and Collections\, Longwood Gardens\n \nPennsylvania’s beautiful wild orchids require a specialized approach to conservation\, and public gardens play a key role in supporting these efforts. In 2015\, Longwood Gardens initiated a native orchid conservation program that focuses on the horticultural aspects of ex situ orchid conservation\, including seed propagation\, seedling establishment\, and collections development. This is balanced with in situ restoration\, population assessments of rare species\, and field work to catalogue previously unknown orchid occurrences. Learn more about the development\, successful outcomes\, and future aspirations of the program to date.\n \nFree of charge | Virtual event \nThis virtual lecture is a part of our Third Thursday Lecture series
