OSCAR
by Sarah Lammer
I have always drawn, usually on whatever is next to me, whether it's a pants leg, a table, or a sketchbook. When I got the watering can template from my art teacher, my first inclination was to draw all over it, so that's what I did. I don't think I really thought of it as an enormous watering can to design, but more like a flat shape to turn into something tangible. Instead of air you couldn't paint on, the empty space became a mouth. When my design was chosen it became a challenge to make Oscar 3D. Now all the watering cans look like cats to me. Oscar was really fun to do, and it was wonderful to have such a unique experience. Thank you to the Arboretum for such a great opportunity!
