WATERINGFOWL
by Peter Gard

Modeled after a child’s pull-toy, Wateringfowl (his friends call him Henry) was designed with fun in mind. It is important to me as a sculptor to experiment with shape, space and materials and to challenge myself to see the potential in objects. It was my goal to create a metamorphosized version of the watering can that could communicate with the viewer and evoke a sense of joy, fun and humanity. As an object, the watering can has graceful lines with curves and angles that feel undeniably figurative, while its grand yet simplistic proportions embody a naiveté that lead to my lighthearted friend. With the slightest additions to the original form I found: A duck? A swan? A goose? It's most definitely a bird – it's most definitely Henry.
